10 Principles for a Great Leader

I have spent countless hours in leadeship seminars (mostly when I was in direct sales). I have read books and watched movies about leadership. And I have been extremely blessed to work with some awesome leaders! I want to share 10 principles that seem to be a common thread when anyone discusses leadership. I recognize these principles in community leaders and business owners that I admire.  Do you recognize any of them in yourself?

GREAT LEADERS …

1. LEAD BY EXAMPLE.

Take responsibility for your actions and put in your time. People respond well to leaders who lead effectively because they understand where their followers are right now. And they listen.

2. ARE BIG THINKERS.

Allow yourself to dream. Imagine any and every great possibility for yourself, your business, your project, etc. Don’t forget to write it down.

3. USE OBSTACLES AS STEPPING STONES.

Don’t deal with the same problem over and over. Deal with it. Accept the truth.

4. CREATE A GREAT CIRCLE OF INFLUENCE.

It has been said time and time again: You are like the 5 people with whom you spend the most time. Who is in your circle?

5. TREAT OTHERS AS THEY WANT TO BE TREATED.

Put good things in the lives of others. Say Thank You.

6. SEE GREAT POTENTIAL IN OTHERS.

Praise others to success. You may be the only person telling them that they are doing a great job.

7. KNOW THAT FAITH IS BIGGER THAN FACT.

Having faith doesn’t mean disregarding facts. Acknowledge the facts and still believe in the vision even when facts don’t line up. Refer to 2 Cor. 5:7 for we walk by faith, not by sight.

8. AREN’T AFRAID TO ASK FOR HELP.

Not knowing how to do everything is okay. Find the experts that know what you don’t and work with them.

9. GET BACK UP WHEN THEY FALL DOWN.

Champions don’t always win but they always finish the race. Be happy to fail. It means that you are doing something, not standing in the corner doing nothing.

10. HAVE A GREAT ATTITUDE.

A great community leader I met today said, “I create my own reality and then live it.”
