This is a sponsored post in collaboration with Verizon. All opinions are my own.
As a social media reporter and digital influencer, a reliable connection is the most important tool I can have. I don’t even question if I’ll have a signal anywhere I go in San Antonio these days. Traveling for pleasure or for work is not as enjoyable if there is not a reliable signal to be able use your mobile apps. Digital sharing is my job and it has gone from written content to visual content to live content. I must keep up!
It’s been one year since I made the switch to Verizon. Below are some favorite Instagram moments of Latinos in entertainment, STEM education, traveling, family time and more. I love that I can share more of what’s important with mis queridos online community over this past year.
My first event to cover was the People en Español Festival where I had the chance to meet and interview Cristela Alonzo – the first Latina and Mexican-American to write and produce her own TV show.
Next, I headed out to the trip of a lifetime. Literally. The American Latino Expedition with National Park Foundation changed the way I relate to the outdoors and our National Parks. I got to share all of it online.
I continue to take my son to STEM-related events in San Antonio to encourage others to introduce or support their children to engage in STEM.
One of our favorite holiday events Las Posadas in downtown San Antonio, this year I was able to capture a lot of it and share via Instagram.
I was so happy to learn about the SA Vestido Rojo event held each hear in San Antonio to bring awareness to women’s heart health in our Latino community.
With a reliable wireless connection, I was able to take you along as I fulfilled a life goal of speaking at a major tech conference – SXSW! Our “How Latina Moms Are Raising the NextGen Coders” was a success. I even got to attend the VIP Verizon concert!
Back in San Antonio, I took my boys to the annual book fair and we heard and met Juan Felipe Herrera who would later be named the 1st Latino Poet Laureate by the U.S. Congressional Library. I love what he says about being a writer in this Instagram video that I shared.
ANYTHING FOR SELENAAAASSS … including driving to Corpus Christi to cover the 1st-ever Fiesta de Flor Festival where thousands of fans celebrated her memory with other musicians and Selena’s family.
Every year, San Antonio host THE BIG GIVE SA, in which the city’s non-profit organizations raise as much money as possible within 24-hours. There are so many worthy organizations. With STEM education being a focus, we created this Instagram video to encourage others to donate to SASTEMIC.
We took a vacation! When we drove from Texas to California, I took mis queridos along with me and shared my most precious moments.
When we returned, it was back to supporting STEM education. I covered the great work that Harlandale ISD is doing with their Puro Robotics Competition.
And, I was muy excited to get to teach a group of high schoolers about blogging before they embarked on their first college campus tour.
My friends published a book!!! I was beyond honored to get to be the hostess of the San Antonio Stop of the LATIN TWIST Cocktail Book by @SweetBakeLife and @MuyBuenoCooking. It was one of my first Periscopes and a fun night of celebration!
I took at trip to Atlanta and leaned about the amazing work by MITZ foundation who teach women in Mexico this unique weaving technique so they can begin their own careers in order to support their families. Moved. Me. To. Tears.
Back in San Antonio, I took a trip to another favorite non-profit, SAYSi. This blog post is coming soon.
My brother moved away. *sad face* Before he left, we spent the day with him and his friends in the beautiful Zilker Park in Austin, TX. Get outdoors, mis queridos!
This stroll down memory lane began with Latinos on TV so it’s appropriate that it ends with Latinos on TV. Last night, I met the Mendez family, the stars of the Discovery en Español show Texas Trocas. I was so proud of this Tejano family being featured this top-rated show!
Wow, after recapping this past year, I am feeling incredible grateful for all that I’ve been able to experience. These are the topics and events that are important to me. Thanks to being a Verizon customer, I’ve been able to share all of this with you. Thank you for following along! Stay tuned for much more to come.
