SA IS AMOR is a visual love letter to San Antonio

When Martha Martinez-Flores revealed her SA IS AMOR design, I immediately knew that I wanted that beautiful print in my house, in a frame and on my wall. As a creative director, she designed the visual that said what so many of us were feeling during the pandemic: San Antonio is love.

Martinez-Flores will tell you that #SAISAMOR is a movement about sharing love, celebrating our city and helping our community. She created it during the COVID-19 pandemic mostly because she felt the tug at her heart to do more for her city. Since the launch in 2020, #SAISAMOR has raised over $20,000 from the sale of limited edition prints and other items. The following organizations have received the donations because, like others, they have been negatively impacted by COVID-19. And, they continue to support our community in these times of need.

  • The Alamo College Student Emergency Fund
  • Bonham Academy Bobcats Lend-A-Paw campaign
  • SAY Sí
  • Woodlawn Theater
  • Martinez Street Women’s Center

SA IS AMOR Products and the Mural

The #SAISAMOR design is made up of symbols that mean so much to Martha and remind her why she loves San Antonio. The designs went beyond a print and on to many products. Find products like the ones pictured above exclusively at Modern Feliz – another Latina-owned local business. There are a limited number of prints. You can shop online or in person at Modern Feliz or Modern Feliz Pop at the Historic Pearl. 100% of the profits are donated to these organizations.

While the prints and products were moving quickly, Martha received a call from Centro San Antonio for a special collaboration. This four-story mural is now part of Centro San Antonio’s Art is Everywhere Initiative. The purpose of the initiative is to significantly increase the amount of public art in San Antonio’s urban core. You can find the mural in downtown San Antonio located at Broadway and 3rd Street.

AMOR Wall by SA IS AMOR at the Historic Pearl

Almost one year since the pandemic has begun, an AMOR WALL has appeared at the Historic Pearl. Isn’t it gorgeous?! There are 36 pink hearts and 24 purple hearts topped with AMOR spelled out in white letters. At night, it lights up. It’s truly an expression of love for San Antonio. It will be on display only for the month of February 2021.

As with all the other SA IS AMOR projects, Martha did not complete with one alone. That’s not her style. She collaborated with the team at the Historic Pearl for the location (between The Broiler House and Botika). To turn her digital design in to a 3D heart-filled Instagram AMOR wall, she worked with other local artists including Manola and Maria Ramirez and Larry Servin.

Get to the Historic Pearl safely to see this AMOR wall. Shop at Feliz Modern for the SA IS AMOR to support local organizations. If you stop by on any Saturday in February, you can shop at a pop up right next to the mural.

Don’t forget what SA IS AMOR is all about – sharing love, celebrating our city and helping our community. Visit saisamor.com to send a special love note to a special someone in your life. Keep sharing the love, Queridos.
