This year, San Antonio Symphony and conductor Akiko Fujimoto, will celebrate the holidays with Holiday POPS concert featuring San Antonio Children’s Chorus and a special guest appearance by Mariachi Sebastien De La Cruz!
They will perform traditional holiday favorites such as Irving Berlin’s White Christmas, blockbuster music from the hit movie “Frozen,” and a sing-along the whole family will enjoy.
Just in case you are not familiar with the Sebastien De La Cruz, he’s a son of San Antonio who gained attention in the 2013 NBA Finals when he sang the National Anthem in full mariachi attire at TWO of the Spurs home games. That came with some controversy but like a real pro, Sebastien won even more people over as he defended his culture and music. ¡Ay que lindo! He won my heart over, for sure! That’s one reason I’m excited to take my family to the Holiday POPS concert.
Before that, De La Cruz was a contestant on the 2012 series of America’s Got Talent. In the clip below of AGT, Sebastien describes mariachi music as “Mexican music that tells stories.”
