Why You Are Excited to See Disney Pixar’s COCO + Where to see it in Spanish

The movie COCO is here. It’s been long awaited. So many people have been waiting to see how Disney Pixar will portray Mexico’s beloved holiday Dia de Muertos or Dia de los Muertos as most call it in the United States.

Coco Latino Cast and Disney Pixar

I’m excited to see COCO for two main reasons:

COCO has an all-Latino voice cast (plus John Ratzenberger because he’s been in every Pixar movie and I’m okay with that). Call me crazy but I think it’s a great idea to cast all Latinos in a movie about a Latino holiday.

COCO stars new-comer Anthony Gonzalez as Miguel (voice); Gael García Bernal as Héctor (voice); Benjamin Bratt as Ernesto de la Cruz (voice); Alanna Ubach as Mamá Imelda (voice); Renee Victor as Abuelita (voice); Jaime Camil as Papá (voice); Edward James Olmos as Chicharrón (voice); and Cheech Marin as Corrections Officer (voice).

Secondly, Disney Pixar movies are some of my favorite movies of all time. They are the ones that have made me laugh out loud and at the same time do the ugly cry. Let’s face it, they know how to tell stories and make those stories come alive on the big screen. We know that Disney Pixar consulted with several Latino consultants in attempt to give COCO an authentic storyline. So, yes, I’m curious to see how they will do with Mexican culture.

Why YOU Said You Are Excited to See COCO

Over the weekend on my Instagram account, I ran a giveaway for passes to see COCO and asked the question: Why are you excited to see COCO? Many of your responses blew me away.

“The characters in the trailer remind me of so many family members. So looking forward to seeing it.” @mra12

“The Alvarado family, kids and parents, have been looking forward to seeing this movie, we are happy to see our Mexican culture on display in a major Disney production.” @andyalvar

“It would be exciting to see how a Hispanic family is portrayed. The abuelita looks like she’s a funny one.” @corpsmom2147

“I’m super excited to see this movie!! I love that our culture is being celebrated and displayed for all to see. I saw clips of the grandmother and I’m already in love with her, so super excited to show my kids and proud to now have a movie that showcases how amazing our Mexican culture is. I can’t wait to own this movie!!!” @mdumas624

Queridos, so many of us are anxious to see our culture displayed vividly and positively on the big screen. I can’t wait to watch this movie with you.
