Kathy Cano-Murillo is a self-described creativepreneur. She has built an empire on creating Mexican-American inspired crafts and writing stories. If you dream of building your own brand based on doing what you love, you should know Kathy.
I can’t remember the first time I met Kathy. I know it was early in my blogging career. I’ve been lucky to attend multiple conferences with her and sit in on her workshops and speeches. She’s the kind of speaker from whom you always learn something new. Kathy is the mujer who loves to share positivity like she loves to share glitter.
Kathy’s life’s mission to inspire others to bring out their inner sparkle – and to see the sparkle in others. She believes in paying it forward and setting a positive example.
And for me, she is that positive example. I often describe her as hashtag career goals. Kathy has always been an artist but also worked a full-time job. When she was working in a Phoenix newsroom, she was asked to write a weekly crafting segment. Her editor knew about her art business and that she loved to craft. That segment led to her website which led to several book deals which led to launching products in national retail stores. Today, she still wears many hats as an artist, author, creator, speaker and more. Oh yeah, she has two kids (now grown) and a husband.
Kathy has recently published her 10th book – Forever Frida. In this book, Kathy celebrates all things Frida Kahlo. The reader can enjoy Frida’s art, her words, her style, and her spirit that we embrace every day.
Queridos, can you see why she’s career goals? Kathy has pivoted in her career when she saw necessary. And, simply she just never gave up. She has courageously shared about her failures. That has to be what really drew me to her. When successful people are vulnerable with you about how they became who they are today, you start to believe that you can do it, too. She’s a real maestra.
We are celebrating Kathy as a mentor and maestra. As well as, we are hosting her for a book signing for Forever Frida. But that’s not all. It’s really a celebration of all the maestras in our lives – our school teachers but also our mothers, our sisters, our amigas, our co-workers and our community leaders.
Buy Kathy’s new book online or at the event. She’ll stay around not only to sign books but she will also be a featured vendor at the Mujeres Market.
Tickets are $5 or $10. Pay what you can. We just want to celebrate with you.
