Following a stunning inaugural season, OPERA San Antonio is presenting Giacomo Puccini’s beautifully evocative Madama Butterfly, the story of an American Navy officer and his young Japanese bride, featuring Maria Kanyova as Cio-Cio San and Adam Diegel as Lt. B.F. Pinkerton. Called visually stunning, graceful and tragic, Madama Butterfly will be held on October 1 and October 3, 2015 at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts.
Earlier this week, I attended a dress rehearsal of the performance and I was completely moved. I had not ever attended an opera performance before and Madama Butterfly seemed to be the perfect performance to introduce me to this amazing art.
The performance will feature a collaboration with the San Antonio Symphony, conducted by Music Director Sebastian Lang-Lessing.
TONIGHT is the last performance at the Tobin Center for Performing Arts, H.E.B. Performance Hall, 7:30 p.m. Purchase tickets at operasa.org Ticket holders are also encouraged to attend the pre-concert lecture by Dr. Kay Lipton at 6:30 p.m. in the East Rotunda of the Tobin Center.
