The first time I saw the trailer to Won’t Back Down, so many emotions ran through me … sadness, anger, concern and at the end joy. (and that is just the trailer) As a parent, not only do I wish for my children to receive a quality education, I wish for every child to receive a quality education. I’m literally taking my kids’ education in my own hands but this mother, along with a teacher, in this story takes on their community’s education. I’m a sucker for feel good movies especially when they are inspired by actual events.
In this powerful story of parenthood, friendship, hope and courage, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Viola Davis portray determined mothers who will stop at nothing to transform their children’s failing inner city school. Facing a powerful and entrenched bureaucracy and a system mired in traditional thinking, they risk everything to make a difference in the education and future of their children. (20th Century Fox)
WON’T BACK DOWN is written by Brin Hill and Daniel Barnz and produced by Mark Johnson. Along with Gyllenhaal and Davis, the star-studded cast includes Holly Hunter, Oscar Isaac, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Lance Reddick, Ving Rhames and one of my favorite Latina actresses, Rosie Perez. In a recent appearance on ABC’s Good Afternoon America, Perez stated that she agreed to play a teacher in this film only on the condition that director Daniel Barnz agreed that he would not be cruel to teachers.
The movie will be out in theaters September 28, 2012. However, FIVE of my lucky readers wont have to wait that long. 20th Century Fox has given ¿Qué Means What? 5 pairs of tickets to the advanced screening at Santikos Palladium, 17703 W IH-10, San Antonio, TX 78257 on Monday, September 24th, 2012 at 7:00 pm. Enter below for your chance to win a reserved seat for you and one guest. Good Luck!
Disclaimer: ¿Qué Means What? did receive press passes to a preview of the movie from 20th Century Fox.
