You will not get very far along in a conversation in San Antonio without someone mentioning allergies! More times than I can count I’ve had someone say to me, “I didn’t suffer from allergies until I moved to San Antonio.”

I understand. I’ve always lived in Texas but it wasn’t until I moved to South Central Texas that I began to suffer from the dreadful allergy season. I use the word season lightly because it can feel like it is all year long. That’s how dreadful it is. Darn you high pollen counts!

Allergies can affect not just how we feel, but also how we look. There’s nothing more flattering <insert sarcasm> than your friends taking one look at you and asking, “Girl, do you have allergies?!” Thanks chica.

Many women experience ALLERGY FACE™ – the beauty challenges like a puffy face, red nose and watery eyes – that are associated with typical allergy symptoms. Also familiar with #ALLERGYFACE is #LatinaBlogger and beauty and fashion expert Carmen Ordoñez, @VivaFashion, who has teamed up with the makers of ZYRTEC® to share her personal beauty tips to combat ALLERGY FACE™.

In an effort to help women look their best despite their allergies, the makers of ZYRTEC® have released video one of a three-part, bilingual video series on YouTube.com/Zyrtec, in which Carmen shares her personal beauty tips to take on ALLERGY FACE™ beauty challenges.

In part one, “Tackling ALLERGY FACE™, One Tip at a Time, With Carmen Ordoñez,” Carmen introduces her tips to help disguise a red nose, a puffy face and watery eyes. Her tips include:

1. Apply a liquid foundation with a dewy or shimmery finish to reduce redness.

2. Apply a bronzer with brown undertones to help contour your face.

3. Apply shimmery white or silver eye shadow to distract from watery eyes.

Watch this video for more details.

I would add:

a. Not really an addition but a reminder, take medication to help combat the symptoms. I, too, personally choose ZYRTEC for allergies in San Antonio. I take it once a day and don’t have to think about it the rest of the day.

b. Keep your make up simple. You will have enough to worry about with watery eyes and possible puffiness. Don’t make it more challenging for touch ups. Consider a simpler hairstyle as well.

c. When using tissue to clean your nose, do your best to dab not rub so that your makeup around your nose doesn’t have to be reapplied more often than needed.

d. Avoid red lips if you have any redness in your skin (due to puffiness or around your nose). Red will only increase the appearance of redness in the skin.

e. If you must wear mascara, use a waterproof mascara.

Stay tuned for the release of part two and part three of Carmen’s video series, which will be distributed in the summer and fall, respectively. Don’t forget to also visit ZYRTEC® on Facebook – http://on.fb.me/10zeUgt to learn more about how to combat ALLERGY FACE™.
