The Beethoven Violin Concerto & Mahler’s “Titan” Symphony is the San Antonio Symphony’s last concert of the season. And they are closing the season with a fun family event including a free simulcast, art contest and an outstanding performance.
After learning about the Paint to Beethoven Art Contest, my chiquitos and I were inspired to have some fun of our own with watercolors. One lesson that I learned from this experience is that my boys can express themselves through art. When we do arts and crafts projects, I usually give them a lot of direction because its tied to a lesson or a holiday. Painting to Beethoven was more about allowing them to paint what they felt as they listened to the music. Kids can definitely do this better than adults. The chiquitos just went with it while I only painted what I knew. Who knew they would be the ones to inspire me?

You can participate in the fun, too! Enjoy a free simulcast at the Tobin Center Riverwalk Plaza of the San Antonio Symphony’s performance of the Beethoven Violin Concerto followed by Mahler’s monumental “Titan” Symphony at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, June 3, 2016.
During the simulcast, the San Antonio Symphony will host a public Paint to Beethoven art contest to be enjoyed by all ages! The contest is free and open to the public and it will include a call for students and an amateur/professionals to sign up to participate in the arts competitions helping to promote the Symphony’s educational programs.
The evening will also feature:
- Drawings of San Antonio Symphony door prizes throughout the event
- An Art Auction of student art pieces from the 2016 Paint to Music Contest hosted by the San Antonio Symphony League
The art contest will take place at the start of the concert and judged during intermission.
Winners will receive tickets to an upcoming concert next season, bragging rights and Symphony swag.

Beethoven Violin Concerto & Mahler’s “Titan” Symphony
2016 Grammy winner, German-born, American-trained violinist Augustin Hadelich brings both “fast-fingered virtuosity” and “musicality and free-wheeling fantasy that cannot be taught” (The New Yorker) to the immortal Beethoven Violin Concerto. The season’s closing program also features Music Director Sebastian Lang-Lessing, summoning expanded forces of the San Antonio Symphony in one of his signature works, Gustav Mahler’s elemental Symphony No. 1, “Titan,” which Mahler called “music in search of a victory!”
