Odd Life of Timothy Green Community Day with the Familia

COMMUNITY DAY

In partnership with Disney’s The Odd Life of Timothy Green and San Antonio Parks and Recreation Volunteers, we headed out to San Pedro park in San Antonio, TX  for a community clean up day. We (mostly the adult volunteers including my husband) cleaned out some garden boxes and replanted flowers and plants and finished it off with mulch. Our entire family went out to help. And I even though some moments felt like I was herding cats when working with my boys, I was super impressed with my 5 year old and 2 year old for ‘volunteering’ for as long as they did. I guess playing in the dirt is fun after all.

PLANTING WISHES AND DREAMS

Disney’s new movie, The Odd Life of Timothy Green is a story about young parents who can’t have children but ‘plant’ their dreams and wishes of who their child would be – funny, musical and rockin’ ! The next day, their son magically appears and changes the lives of anyone he encounters.

A fantastic idea from Family Love in My City was to mimick the movie and write down our wishes on small pieces of paper and plant them with the flowers. (Obviously I’m not a gardener or I could tell you what type of flower/plant we used!)

I’m not going to tell you my son’s wishes but I will tell you that there is something very special about children believing in that their wishes and dreams will come true. He couldn’t wait until it was ‘dark time’ as he calls it. That’s when his wishes were coming true. In a funny way, they did.

“Have child-like faith.”

I thought I understood what that meant before but through my son, I got to experience it. For my son, there was no doubt that they were going to come true. What can we learn from our kids? In a trailer for The Odd Life of Timothy Green, Jennifer Garner says, “… by will and force and a sprinkle dust of magic, they (the couple who cannot have kids) kind of create their own family.” Can we will our dreams? Or is it just wishful thinking?

I can’t wait to see The Odd Life of Timothy Green and I hope it is magical as believing that if you plant your dreams and wishes, they will come true. I hope it makes me cry and makes me fall in love not only with the characters but with my family all over again. Yep, I’m a sucker for tear jerkers. WANNA COME SEE TOO??
