Gods of Egypt Movie Poster

Queridos, I won’t skirt around the controversy about this film. It’s receiving a lot of criticism about the cast of mostly white males as gods of Egypt. We’ve had this conversation on here before. Lionsgate responded to the outcry and issued an apology.

”We recognize that it is our responsibility to help ensure that casting decisions reflect the diversity and culture of the time periods portrayed. In this instance we failed to live up to our own standards of sensitivity and diversity, for which we sincerely apologize. Lionsgate is deeply committed to making films that reflect the diversity of our audiences. We have, can and will continue to do better.” ~ Lionsgate (Forbes.com)

Thanks for that, Lionsgate. I should mention that one of the characters is played by Chadwick Boseman (who will be starring in Captain America: Civil War and Black Panther).

“When I originally was approached with the script, I thought this [critique] might come up, I really did. And I’m thankful that it did, because actually, I agree with it. [But] in the movie, I actually outnumber the other gods in the movie, literally and figuratively. It’s hard for people to know that without seeing it. But yeah, people don’t make $140 million movies starring black and brown people.” ~ Chadwick Boseman Cineblend.com

A lot of people have a lot of opinions about the ‘white-washing’ in Hollywood. Let’s be honest, it’s not the first time. Boseman makes a point that we have all seen proven time and time again. Pero, because I love and respect you, I’ll let you decide what you love or don’t love about GODS OF EGYPT. Download your passes to see the flick below.
