Friday Night, Pizza Night

Once upon a time we ordered pizza for dinner almost every Friday night! Neither my husband nor I wanted to cook at the week’s end. Since we all loved the hot, cheesy dish, it was an easy fix.

However, when we discovered my youngest son’s food allergies, we changed our eating habits as a family. At one point we only eat what he could eat because I was afraid to keep anything else in the house. And he can’t eat wheat. I have since decided to not keep him in a bubble and I began to teach him what he can and cannot have. While preparing meals separately for my son, we were willing to order pizza again.

We did notice a difference in the way we felt eating pizza again after several months of not having it at all. It was decided that it was mostly the bread that made us feel overly ‘stuffed.’ As much as we loved pizza, we weren’t rushing to call any pizza delivery guys to add it back to our dinner routine.

So, when we found out Domino’s was offering a gluten-free crust, I was happy to give it a try.

Now Domino’s has made it very clear that while the crust is certified as gluten-free, current store operations at Domino’s cannot guarantee that each handcrafted pizza will be completely free from gluten. Domino’s and NFCA (National Foundation for Celiac Awareness) do not recommend it for those with celiac disease but agree it is appropriate for those with mild gluten sensitivity.

We thought our pepperoni and mushroom pizza was tasty! It didn’t make me feel ‘too full’ afterwards either. Domino’s only makes it available in a small 10″. I don’t know if it will always be that way but I appreciate the portion control.

Our family enjoyed it so much, we ordered another pizza the next Friday! Two pizzas on two Friday nights … it might be Friday Night Pizza again!
