This is an Epic weekend. Opening today is a beautiful 3D heartwarming family –adventure based on the book The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs
by William Joyce. In the natural world there is an ongoing battle between good and evil and in this film a teenager trying to reconnect with an estranged father after her mother dies finds herself suddenly in the middle of that magical battle, the secret world her father has been obsessed with. Mary Katerine (Amanda Seyfreid), who now goes by MK, is picked by the Queen to help protect a bud to which she has passed her healing powers to. She’s essential to their success and must join a ragtag group to save their world and ours.

In this magical world Leafmen fight Boggans to keep the forest alive. The Boggans are intent on destroying and decaying everything in nature while the Leafmen’s queen is tasked with re-growing everything they destroy to keep the forest balanced. EPIC stars the voice talents of Beyoncé Knowles, Colin Farrell, Josh Hutcherson, Christoph Waltz, Amanda Seyfried and Pitbull making his animated feature debut. While I could certainly give you detailed descriptions of the entire movie I’d rather encourage you to watch the file this weekend.

We were fortunate to preview EPIC last weekend and my mother joined my two daughters (five & 21 months) and me. We all loved it! My toddler was entertained enough to sit still, which doesn’t usually happen, while my five year old kept talking about it for days after. The fast pace of the chase scenes, the rebellious teens, the relationships between the teenagers and their father or father figure, and the slug humor worked for us. The magical beauty of that natural world and the talented CG animators was all a win for us. EPIC’s story is reminiscent of Ferngully, a family favorite that we’ve watch hundreds of times in the past five years, and we believe it will be an instant classic.

Even without the impact of 3D EPIC is the kind of story we like our kids to watch. Personally I enjoyed watching MK figure out her father isn’t as crazy as she thinks. I can’t wait to watch it over and over again with my girls. I also hope the DVD will have a Spanish track so we can watch it at home in both English and Spanish. So spend a little family time in the cool theater this Memorial Day weekend watching Epic or watch it in the next few weeks but don’t miss it. The 3D effect is well worth the theater experience. You won’t regret it. Visit EPIC the Movie for games, videos, and activities.

I couldn’t let you finish without a clip from Mr. Worldwide himself. Here’s Pitbull talking about EPIC.
