THE SHACK – San Antonio Movie Screening

I remember when THE SHACK was published as a novel and all the controversy around it. It did make me want to read the book even more. I have a curiosity for how others perceive God and the Holy Trinity. In THE SHACK, God is show as 3-people – African-American woman; a Jewish carpenter; and an Asian woman named Sarayu. No spoilers here if you haven’t read the book but I find the story extremely moving.

(Synopsis) Based on the New York Times best-selling novel, THE SHACK takes us on a father’s uplifting spiritual journey. After suffering a family tragedy, Mack Phillips [Sam Worthington] spirals into a deep depression causing him to question his innermost beliefs. Facing a crisis of faith, he receives a mysterious letter urging him to an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Despite his doubts, Mack journeys to the shack and encounters an enigmatic trio of strangers led by a woman named Papa [Octavia Spencer]. Through this meeting, Mack finds important truths that will transform his understanding of his tragedy and change his life forever.

THE SHACK Cast

THE SHACK stars Sam Worthington, Octavia Spencer, Tim McGraw, Avraham Aviv Alush, Radha Mitchell, Alice Braga, Sumire, Amelie Eve, Megan Charpentier, Gage Munroe with Graham Greene.

Although Sam Worthington will play the lead character ‘Mack’, I’m most looking forward to seeing Octavia Spencer. She’s become one of my favorite actresses (mostly since THE HELP) and I’m anxious to see her in the role of ‘Papa’ or God in THE SHACK. I was cheering for her to win her second Academy Award last night for her role in HIDDEN FIGURES. Another actor who I’m looking forward to seeing in this movie is Tim McGraw who will play the character ‘Willie’. Tim always surprises me in his movie roles but the most impactful role that I remember is still the alcoholic father in FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS

It is rated PG-13 for thematic material including some violence. THE SHACK opens in theaters on Friday, March 3rd.
