Where Was My Personal Success Coach? Don’t Miss Yours at #FestivalPeople

I am an equal opportunity education advocate. I’ve written before about the importance of education for elementary students, high school students and even traditional college students. What I haven’t written about before is the importance of higher education for working adults. Let’s talk about that now.

When I graduated with my Bachelor’s Degree, I was well in to my mid-20’s. I was on the verge of being labeled a non-traditional student. While I had been attending college either as a part time or full time student since right out of high school, I worked a full time job through my college years. It was challenging and absolutely worth it.

At that time, I didn’t have much guidance on how to manage my time, money or resources. While the counselors at the university did help guide me in which classes to take, they didn’t have much advice or guidance for someone in my situation. Reflecting on it, I would have loved to have had my own personal success coach like the ones available to the Strayer University students. Don’t get me wrong. I wouldn’t be who I am today if I hadn’t had my challenges but a coach could have saved me some headaches.

Strayer University knows that working adults juggle busy schedules with many family, work, and life priorities. They built a team of personal success coaches to provide career counsel, learning support, and “cheerleading” every step of the way in the student’s academic journey. Personal success coaches work directly with the student from day one until day of graduation.

Students can lean on their success coaches to help them:

  • Set educational, career, and life goals – whether it is getting a promotion, changing careers, starting a business, being a role model in the family or community
  • Connect with free tutors
  • Create a personalized learning plans
  • Find career activities for further professional development
  • Receive support and counsel they might need as a busy adult student
