16 de Septiembre Festivities Include Canelo Mayweather Fight Viewing Party

This weekend kicks off many celebrations for diez y seis de Septiembre, Mexico's independence from Spain. In San Antonio, we celebrate it with food, fun, community and boxing! For 32 years the Avenida Guadalupe Assoication (Avenida) has hosted the 16 de Septiembre Festivities, a day long festival complete with a parade, drill team competitions, food vendors and live performances. 16-de-septiembre-parade-festivalThis year's festivities will include a screening of THE ONE – Super Welter Weight Worldwide Boxing Championship between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. 10:00 am ~ Parade Step-Off

This year's Grand Marshall is Emmy Award-winning journalist Lindsay Casinelli, Univsion Deportes Network Anchor.

The Parade route will be along Guadalupe street. There is limited free seating! You are invited to also bring your own chairs.

12:00 pm – 5:00 pm ~ Festival 

FREE ADMISSION. There will be kids' activities and playground, food vendors, and various exhibitors. It's not a 16 de Septiembre celebration without an “El Grito” Independence Ceremony, so practice those gritos now! Live entertainment will be performing throughout the day and the headliner is The Liberty Band!

7:00 pm ~ Boxing Extravaganza (Live Pay per View Showing in the Plaza Guadalupe)

The biggest addition to the festivities is the long awaited Mayweather v. Canelo boxing match, "The One", which will be shown live in the Plaza Guadalupe starting at 7pm. San Antonio's new “Golden Boy” Jairo Castaneda and #TeamCastaneda will commentate the Boxing Extravaganza.
